Summer Theatre at the Library

Book readers and theatregoers often overlap–they are all people who love a story. NPL staff are no exception, and we love bringing theatrical experiences into the library when we can. In the month of July, you have the chance to catch three free performances at your local library.

  • Nomad Theatre Company presents The Patio Plays on the front lawn Thursday, July 7 at 6:30 pm. The Patio Plays, directed by Alysa Chandler, is a site-specific 30-minute theatre experience where a troupe of actors travel to a variety of locations throughout the Bloomington-Normal community and perform monologues & scenes on patron's patios themed around... well, the patio. The plays are short and family friendly. Before they begin traveling to homes and other locations around town, Nomad Theatre Company will visit Normal Public Library for one of their final dress rehearsals.

  • Community Players will preview their production of Matilda Saturday, July 9 at 10:00 am in the Community Room. The well-loved book by Roald Dahl is presented in this funny and clever musical! Come check it out and get a sneak peek of the July performances.

  • Illinois Shakespeare Festival's Theatre for Young Audiences returns to the library Friday, July 15 at 10:00 am for their production, Much Ado About Quite A Lot.  Theatre for Young Audiences presents Shakespeare plays that have been adapted into fun, accessible works for the whole family!
