Will there be a new Normal Public Library? Where? When?

In 2017 a conceptual design of a new library facility was completed. The concept is designed to fit in Uptown Normal, south of the railroad tracks and bordering Linden. Currently there is no funding source for the new facility, thus there is no projected date of completion.

Why a New Library?

In addition to the traditional collections and services offered by libraries, we offer emerging technologies, a wide variety of programming and spaces for the community to meet and collaborate. The role of libraries continues to grow. Our community has grown a great deal, and our current facility is not able to best serve our residents.

What's Happening Now?

Our goal is to provide a facility that is safe, healthy, and convenient for the community. We do our best to optimize the space we have, and to continue maintaining our facility so it functions optimally. At times we make minor modifications to our facility to better serve the community. Such updates are made with an eye to a future building. Our book sorter will move with us to any new location and we have purchased shelving that can move with us as well.
