Fourth – Sixth graders who complete all 6 reading logs in the summer reading program will earn a ticket to our bonus party – it’s the last activity of the summer and it’s a lot of fun.
This party is only for readers who have completed 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and have completed 6 reading logs in the Kids Summer Reading Program.
The party begins on a Friday, right around when the library is closing. Kids can be dropped off anytime between 4:30 and 5:30pm. The ticket will include a permission slip that must be signed by the parent. Also, please note that while participants are welcome to arrive anytime between 4:30 and 5:30, they must be able to stay until the end of the party at 9:00.
We’ll have about 20 or more staff members working at the party, so there is a ton of supervision and a lot of grown-ups around if the kids have any questions or need any help at all!
If you need to accompany your child to this event, please let library staff know ahead of time.
Here’s what to expect at the bonus party:
When your child arrives, we’ll take their ticket and permission slip. Parents, you can keep the information sheet. All kids will get to cast a vote for the movie we’ll show later on.
Once we get started our library staff will act out a mystery, and the kids try to figure out whodunit.
Then, we’ll have dinner together – gondolas, chips and a drink.
Please note – we will provide meatless gondolas for those who request them. We can also provide a gluten-free gondola for children with a gluten allergy who make arrangements with Tori Melican (309-454-4668) by 5pm the day before the party. Please let us know if your child needs a meatless gondola or needs to make other food arrangements.
After dinner, everyone will head upstairs to the 2nd floor, where there will be a variety of things to do, including board games, air hockey, Wii, and more. After we reset the basement, we’ll start our chosen movie, have a craft and have dessert – create your own ice cream sundae! So there will be a lot of different activities to do for the rest of the evening.
When we start to wind down our party, we’ll meet again in the basement, give away some prizes, get a group picture and then walk upstairs as a group to wait for parents.
