Library Visits
Come learn and play with us!
Classes can learn about the library and all of our resources through a Library Tour.
Add a Storytelling Session, full of books, songs, and fingerplays to any tour, or enjoy it on its own!
Our Discovery Room is always open during library hours for classes to enjoy. It contains educational activities, puppets, games, toys, and more.
Classes studying specific subjects can come to the library for a Research Help Visit. A librarian will be available to show specific useful resources and to assist students with the use of the online catalog.
We hope that you’ll enjoy your visit and choose to come back again and again!
Interested in setting up a visit? Please contact the library staff at least two weeks in advance at 309-454-4668. And don’t forget, all of our services are absolutely free!
School Visits
Can’t come to the library? Then let us bring the library to you!
School visits are available to individual classrooms, multiple classrooms and grades, school library classes, large group assemblies, or even school fairs or open houses.
Classroom Booktalks offer a great chance to introduce your students to fun, quality books. We’ll bring books to life with riveting descriptions and interactive antics. We can provide booktalks on new, holiday, or award-winning books or on a theme of your choice.
Or let us supplement your lesson by providing Drop-In Story Hours full of books, fingerplays, and songs on the theme of your choice.
We also offer a special program for preschool and kindergarten classes called HOPPER – Helping Our Providers Promote and Encourage Reading. We’ll bring HOPPER, a frog puppet, for a visit to your location and provide a mini-storytime all about frogs.
We will leave a variety of materials in the classroom, including HOPPER himself, for teachers and students to enjoy for one month.
Help your students get to know their public library through one of our Library Informational Visits. Students will learn about the library, it’s materials, programs, and resources, and how to get a library card.
Sign up for our Surprise Reader program to have a staff member pop in to your classroom to read a fun book. Sign up for a specific time or be brave and let us surprise you, too!
