Volunteering at the Library

Volunteer Application

The first step to volunteering at the Normal Public Library is to fill out a volunteer application.  You may pick one up at the Front Desk or print one off of our website.

Print our volunteer application here.

Placing Volunteers

We are not able to provide volunteer opportunities for everyone who applies.

We will keep volunteer applications on file for up to six months.  As volunteer positions become available, we will select the best candidate from our applicants.

Age Limits

There are no official age limits for our volunteers.  You are always welcome to submit an application.

Community Service Hours

We have no official rule prohibiting volunteers who are seeking Community Service Hours.  You are always welcome to submit an application.

Criminal History Screens

Any volunteers who work directly with the public will be required to undergo a Criminal History Screen.

We will run this Criminal History Screen after we have selected an individual for a volunteer position.

We will be checking for violent crimes or a pattern of crimes.

Groups of Volunteers

If you have an interest in volunteering as a group, please give us lots of notice and we will let you know if we have any projects that might work.

Partners in Reading

College students are invited to volunteer for our Partners in Reading program.

We’ll pair you with a grade school student to meet once a week and enjoy the library together.

Learn more about Partners in Reading here.

Book Sales

The NPL Used Book Sales are a fun opportunity to volunteer.

We need volunteers to help with setting up the books in the days before sales and to work the sales themselves.
