According to this Wall Street Journal article, long-haul truckers who find themselves with time on their hands waiting for their next load are taking up knitting and quilting and other crafts in increasing numbers. Some have even outfitted their rigs with sewing machines! I love the idea of these tough old truckers, mostly men, learning to create through traditional handicrafts usually associated with women. Knitting, crocheting, sewing, and all other kinds of crafts can be a great way to pass the time and end up with something awesome that you made entirely on your own.
Want to learn to get crafty like a trucker? We've got lots of great books here at the library for you to check out – just visit the Crafts and How-To booklist right here on the teen blog for a introduction to a few of the best resources.
